Bishop Bio

Bishop Moore, an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, is a self-proclaimed hopeologist and creative master at heart. Having served in the Itinerant ministry for the past 14 years, he is currently the founder and chief communicator of Courageous Communities. Courageous Communities is founded on principles from Matthew 28:19-20 and Joshua 1:9 with a mission to reach and impact people across generations and cultures by daring to have courageous conversations that both challenge and invite a sense of community bound by the love of Christ. Rev. Bishop Moore is admittedly a "church boy." He grew up in church, accepted Christ at a young age and has been actively involved in music ministry since age 16.

However, at the tender age of 14, Bishop was removed from his home by the department of social services and placed in a foster care group home. As if the ordeal at home was not traumatic enough, he went to three different high schools for 9th grade, experiencing bullying and consequently dropping out in the 10th grade. He became a horseman at a local racetrack, working hard to support himself all the while never wavering in his church attendance. This season in his life would come to be one of several defining moments.

By the grace of God, Bishop obtained his GED and attended Maryville College in Maryville, TN where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. From there he set his hopes on a prominent musician position where he could continue to develop his talents in ministry. He was overlooked for the position, and this was devastating — another defining moment. This closed door led to an open window and a one-way trip to Argentina. He immersed himself into the culture, not fluent in Spanish, but passionate about Christ and courageous enough to try something out of the box. He embraced the opportunity to teach English and do good works so that others would see them and subsequently glorify God.

Fast forward a few years, Bishop returned back to the States. He actively pursued graduate education with a passion for furthering his studies and broadening his professional proficiencies. In light of his tenure and post-graduate studies, Bishop has also earned Advanced Professional Certificate status through MSDE. More recently, he earned the Master of Arts in Church Ministries from St. Mary’s Ecumenical Seminary. For the past 20+ years, Bishop has dedicated his time and energy to middle- and high-schoolers; teaching them to love music and the power of song to bring people of different backgrounds together in unity. Unity has always been one of his core values. He maintains hope and seeks to instill hope in every setting, situation and community in which he finds himself engaged. Every obstacle, roadblock, and crossroad has led him to this intersection of passion and purpose, calling and community. Courageous Communities is an opportunity for us to come out of hiding in the pews and dare to go out into all the world, connecting with all peoples, having courageous conversations that challenge us to grow in Christ. Won’t you join us . .

He is married to Dr. Karyn Felder Moore, his partner in life and ministry and they are proudly raising two beautiful, God-fearing kids.
